Events & Projects -- Book Sales

Fall 2018 Book Sale: Friday

Join us at the American Legion Hall in Sutter Creek for our next semiannual Book Sale. Friday, October 19, 4 - 7 pm; Saturday, October 20, 10 am- 4 am.; Sunday, October 21, 11 am - 3 pm.

Friday night is Members Night – but you can join at the door and get first crack at the literally thousands of books we have for sale. Or join now so you're ready! Annual dues are still only $10.00 for individuals and $15.00 for couples.

There are still lots of wonderful books, media, puzzles, and games available on Saturday and Sunday. And on Sunday all books and items are 50% off!

Each book sale culminates months of collecting, sorting, and categorizing thousands of donated volumes and has become one of Amador County's go-to events. Over the years, the sale has grown from one day to three, and the incredible number of quality books has skyrocketed. FACL takes great pride in providing the community a wide array of gently used books at great prices. This event provides much-needed funds to maintain the quality of the Amador County Library. Thank you one and all for your support.

Volunteers and Sponsors – We Couldn't Do It Without You!

This wonderful event is only possible because of the labors and generous donations of many individuals and organizations in the community. The book sale takes five days to assemble, host, and disassemble, but it is truly a labor of love.

setting up for the book sale

More than 70 FACL volunteers make this huge undertaking possible, and it is so wonderful to work with all of the enthusiastic, competent volunteers. The sale's success is largely due to the many volunteers who help sort, set-up, "fluff" (keep the displayed books neat and accessible), tally, and cashier. Other volunteers help sort donated books that come in to our Book Storage Room on Book Drive days.

Special thanks to our American Legion Post 108, which donates the use of its Legion Hall; the City of Plymouth which loans us many of our tables; and the Pine Grove Youth Conservation Camp which brings in young men to help with the set-up and tear-down.

How Your Purchases Help the Library

Each of our book sales raises nearly $5,000, which along with other funding helps support the library with needed supplies and materials that the budget can't accommodate – subscriptions, new computers, systems for DVD storage, children's story time, the Summer Reading Program, Little Free Libraries, adding to the general collection, digitizing our local newspaper, and lots more. We are fortunate to live in a community with so many people who are generous with their donations and time.

At the Sale

Members' Night is always busy as you see here. Also pictured are some Book Sale Committee members (standing, back row) Jim Powell, Helen Bierce, Michele Powell, and Janie Brown posing with members of a Pine Grove Youth Conservation Camp crew who help transport the books to and from the sale.
